Brief

Barburrito are a well known, originally Manchester-based restaurant chain providing the Mexican eatery experience for people since 2005. They’ve expanded to 16 stores nationwide over the last few years and have proudly served >10 million burritos and counting.

The Barburrito marketing team reached out to us having seen our food video content online and asked for some creative concepts to be able to showcase their food on store screens. The video wasn’t necessarily narrative or ad based but intended to grab people’s attention as they walked past store. This could occur at any moment during the videos play out cycle so this had to be taken into consideration.

Pre-Production

Building on our experience creating content specifically for social feeds for various FMCG brands over the years we began putting together some creative ideas for how to showcase the large variety of food on offer at Barburrito.

They shared a few cores areas to feature such as: fresh ingredients, made fast, vegan options etc. and wanted their burritos, bowls and sides all to be included.

We took this on board and started crafting a detailed moodboard which featured ‘slow mo’ macro food shots integrated with a more social-first human interaction (hence the swiping through the menu choices for any Tinder fans out there).

Production

The full production took place at our studio in Manchester with a core team consisting of our Art Director, Director of Photography, Food Stylist and Production Assistant. The client provided their head chef to be on hand to make sure all the food was made to spec and placed into the burritos in the correct order.

We shot on our Red Gemini in 5K allowing for a vertical and horizontal frame in one take. Having this kind of resolution makes the post production process so much simpler and allows for multiple assets to be created easily.

We switched out the brand colours in the background and on the table’s surface throughout the shoot to make sure there was a nice vibrant feel to the video.

Post-Production

Working from the detailed storyboards we began piecing together the 9:16 vertical video edit. This video lent heavily on animated text graphics and stop motion techniques to create a captivating edit.

All colour grading, editing and animation was conducted by our in-house post production team over the space of 4 days.

The marketing team said something nice about us:

We tasked Dead Pixel with storyboarding and creating vibrant, eye-catching content to promote the Barburrito brand and menu offering for broadcast on digital screens across the country. Pre-production, production, and post-production were all excellent, with the team incredibly easy to work with and always on hand to assist where anything extra might be required.

The shoot day went perfectly according to the schedule set out, and the final result was a high-end promotional video which conveyed all the messages we had set out to.

I can't recommend them highly enough!
