Brief (there wasn’t one!)

Established in 1762, Whitley Neill are the UK’s No.1 Premium Handcrafted Gin - so it was a no-brainer when looking for a product around the office for our Christmas Challenge.

Putting the team to the test, our in-house DOP (Cal Thomson) and Director (Kieran Edwards) were given no brief, just 48 hours to produce a premium video production that complimented the ever popular Gin & Tonic drink. Two creatives, two cameras, two days.

No brief, no problem.

The outcome - a dark and moody product-led video boasting a selection of unique frames, energetic cuts and satisfying sound design.

Production

Content was shot using both the Red Gemini 5K and Phantom VEO at our Manchester home, The Sharp Project. Super slow motion scenes were captured using the Phantom VEO in 4K at 1000 frames per second (40 x slower than real life). In order to expose the images correctly at such high speeds, a vast amount of lighting and fast lenses were utilised across both cameras.

From start to finish, the whole production was completed in two days. After bouncing around creative concepts in the morning, all footage was captured on day one. Day two focussed on the edit and sound design to bring it all to life.

A special thanks to the legends at Pro Motion Hire for helping source kit for the shoot.
