Brief

Red’s True BBQ is a self-proclaimed barbecue heaven. Originally a chain of American-style smokehouses, Red’s now boasts a tasty retail range of smoked burgers, sausages and sauces that are available at all major supermarkets.

As part of their paid social strategy, RMS Creative Communications approached us to bring National Burger Day to the big and small screens alike in a mouth-watering, indulgent 20-second film to help promote the new frozen burger range at Tesco.

Pre-Production

We worked closely with RMS to piece together the shot list and the steps needed to create the ‘Perfect Red’s Bacon Cheeseburger’. In true Red’s fashion, we knew we had to get juicy, close up, food porn shots in order to create an on-brand edit. To make this happen, we brought the macro lens, product turntable and our ever-popular fish tank (sauce shot) to add that extra creative flair.

Production

With time against us during a busy day of service, we arrived at the restaurant bright and early and began to rig the camera and lighting. We had a few hours before customers would be walking through the doors, so we commandeered a section of the restaurant, turned off all the lights and began set dressing the area. With this being the retail ‘at home’ range, the challenge was to create a relatable feel to the set and avoid seeing the restaurant dining setup. (No hot plates or steel worktops to be seen).

We used a selection of vinyl work surfaces from our studio and house plants to make the space feel like a home kitchen.

We shot the majority of the footage in one area, covering the food prep and building of the burger, before moving into the kitchen to get some close-up shots of the burger grill and time-lapse the cheese melting.

Post-Production

Our in-house team took care of the edit from start to finish, including grading, graphics and sound design.

Shooting on our RED Gemini in 5K 100fps makes delivering a vertical and widescreen version easy without any loss in resolution.
