The Brief
Creative agency Make Marks reached out to us looking for a production partner to help create storyboards and develop a directors treatment around the concept “Rhythm of life” . The Sistema brand film needed to showcase a new product range in a variety of every day, relatable family-friendly scenes.
The concept had to work as a standalone 60s hero film plus each scene needed to work as a 15s ad in multiple formats for global reach.
Pre-Production
Building on the agency’s original creative deck, we developed the director’s treatment which outlines the immersive camera angles, transition moments and how sound design would be crucial in providing the right pace for the brand film.
Alongside the treatment, the rest of production team began working through the food requirements, props & styling and wardrobe options for each scene.
Casting was a key part of the prep, with a requirement of 4 adults and 2 childen each agreeing to video & photography buyouts. The children were of school age and therefore needed child licenses applying for through the council with plenty of allowances for breaks in our schedule.
With the plans in place, the creative signed off and casting underway, everything was coming together ready for shoot day.
Production
Production took place over 2 days with a crew of 19 and 5 cast members.
Day 1. was in the kitchen studio. A very familiar space for us that we tweaked and tailored to suit the Sistema brand. The sets were pre-built and lit the day before to ensure as much time was spent filming the actors as possible.
Video & photography were working alongside one another sharing talent and lighting setups to help maximise the content delivered. This meant we had a strict timing plan and had to stick to it to make sure we all went home on time.
We brought all customised props to deliver on the promised' ‘immersive angles’. This included our backless microwave and oven that allowed us to get our camera in position. Sorry to break to it you, but we don’t just stuff a camera in the back of the oven to get the shot.
Day 2. On Location. We loaded up all the vans, catering and cars before heading to West Manchester to film in a beautiful property. We had interiors and exterior shots and really struck gold with a sunny afternoon in wintery Manchester. We still had to bring out the big lights to help illuminate such big spaces and the clouds would often swoop in playing havoc with out filming schedule.
That said, we worked fast and efficiently wrapping on time and out by 6pm.
Post-Production & Results
With all the footage in the bag, it was time for the brilliant team at Make Marks to work their editing magic! Our part was done, so we could sit back, enjoy the process and reflect on all that hard work.
