Brief

Not being the type to sit and wait, we used one our freed up days at the height of the COVID-19 lockdown to created a spec ad for Tens.

Limiting it to a single day, the challenge was to get creative and produce a proof of concept using only items that could be sourced around the house.

*Tens were not involved in the making of this video; we're just big fans of the product and it fitted the challenge. They did send us our own discount code, though - cheers guys!

Production

Once the bed was dismantled and the room was converted into a blank canvas home studio it was time to go to work. The ad was shot on our Sony FS7 in 4K using the Samyang 100mm macro lens. Shooting in 4K allowed for maximum resolution - perfect for screen grabs. Plus, we retained all vertical resolution for Instagram stories. This was mainly lit using the Aputure 300D with some light bounced back to fill in the shadows.

A few secrets revealed:
- The slate was nicked from the front garden of Cal Thomson’s house (Our DOP)
- The dogs blanket was used as the backdrop (he didn’t mind!).
- The fire reflections were from the popular Netflix show ‘Fireplace in your home’.
- Shifting a double bed and a mattress alone is a workout.
